There is a sort of propaganda going on in some circles : The world is going to end in 2012. There is going to be a catastrophe.
This is much hyped in some media channels where popularity is being sought via sensational journalism.
As per some sources, the Mayan calendar of the ancient Mayan civilization of Mexico predicts an apocalypse in 2012. As per some other sources, there is a prediction by Nostradamus, another favorite of the mystery seeking doom-sayers.
I read some interesting analysis by a group that focuses on research on meta-physical and spiritual topics. They suggest that there won't be an apocalypse in 2012, however due to an increase in the negative energies in the universe, there is going to be a phase of large scale destruction over the coming decade. They predict that the Third World War will begin in 2010 and continue for nearly a decade. A large part of the world's population will perish as a result. However, at the end there will be the silver lining : the beginning of a new golden age.
Let us analyze all such claims in the light of sanatan dharma.
First of all, as per Vedic scriptures, there is no chance of the end of the present age of Kaliyuga so soon. This age of "quarrels" began about 5100 years ago, with the disappearance of Lord Krishna , when He left the earth for His abode Goloka. The span of Kaliyuga is said to be 4,32,000 years and we are only into the 52nd century of this Kaliyuga. So what to speak of golden age , Kaliyuga hasn't even matured enough to merit a temporary cleansing so far.
For instance, even today there are persons who lead lives of dharma, bath in the sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna , Godavari and Kaveri. There are persons who chant the Holy Names of Krishna and lead a pure life.
The places of pilgrimage are still present, although those are not maintained well and are disappearing fast with the influx of atheistic people.
Nevertheless, this situation is not yet so bad that an apocalypse should happen.
The rickshaw-puller on the street still accepts just a ten rupee note from you, while you ride his rickshaw to a Five Star Hotel where you might easily spend thousands of rupees.
The rag picker humbly asks for a few rupees on the occasion of Diwali, fully aware that you have burnt thousands of rupees on fireworks.
So there are a lot of good people still left. In other words, goodness is still left in enough quantity that the people don't kill each other so often: not very often at least.
Then what is this talk of apocalypse ? Who is talking of "Kalki avatar" at this time ?
It is certainly welcome to have a "golden age", but that too seems very far fetched. The people are certainly changing, focusing more and more on personal enjoyments as more and more items become available for fulfilling their senses.
But such people have always existed, since the days of yore in fact.
In the earlier days, it was only the Kings and the Nobles who enjoyed the cabarets of their danseuses while today even a barber can enjoy those on the TV while cutting hair of his customers in his petty saloon!
Meat, drinks, illicit sex have been present since time immemorial. The intelligent persons have never been attracted to those things, fully aware of the consequences of such attachments. Now those illicit facilities have been made available to the masses.
It may be considered good or bad.
The world is being guided by Krishna, the same Expert who has created it. He knows what needs to be done, so we cannot question His decisions.
We have learnt from our Guru parampara that we are only to reform ourselves, only to look into our own defects and never to pry into the frailties of others. The environment is our best friend.
That Expert will decide , when and how an apocalypse must come. Human beings, with their limited intelligence, cannot perceive such matters.
If Krishna decides to dissolve this world today, let it be so. He is the well wisher of everybody,of every living entity. So there should be no cause for worry to an intelligent person about any predictions of apocalypse or of world war.
Whatever happens will be good for us. We are only to do our duty of serving the Names of Krishna.
I received this comment from a reader who calls himself "godrealized" :
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When do we expect coming of Bhagavan Kalki... an Avatar of present era... a messiah competent to uplift Dharma (righteousness)! In times of strife... when mutual trust amongst each other reaches its lowest ebb... coming of a messiah (Avatar) gets necessitated! Even man gods like Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed fail in such circumstances!
Who shall be Bhagavan Kalki is the biggest question! Coming of a man god coupled with powers of Chanakya (most able administrator in history of mankind) is only solution! Humanity looks forward to such a one... an ordinary mortal that against all odds upholds Dharma (righteousness) and succeeds in re-establishing peace tranquility abound!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My response :
Dear friend, although you have named yourself "godrealized", you do not have the slightest hint of God realization.
The persons you have named are associated with temporal / non-sanatan dharma.
Mahavira : His idea was the jiva can become God.
Gautam Buddha : His idea was to annihilate the existence of jiva.
Muhammad : His idea was God does exist, but doesn't have any form. The ultimate purpose of prayers is to enjoy a permanent life of enjoyment in heaven. The human beings who take shelter of Muhammad are to become the enjoyers, whereas all others are to be cast to hell. His preaching was not at all Vedic, it has been a source of disturbance alone.
Jesus : His ideas are not known, but as per Christianity : all Christians are to enter heaven whereas the others are to be cast into hell.
Both the religions: those based on Koran as well as the Bible are misleading. Those do not accept rebirth, therefore extreme cruelty may be meted out to the "disbelievers". Those religions are far away from the truth.
Lord Krishna will take avatar as Kalki when the time is right.
What do you mean by "who will become Kalki ?"
Nobody will become Kalki, because one of Krishna's avatars will come. How can anybody think of "becoming Kalki"?
Please get rid of false god realization and seek the truth.
